[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Krafton, known for its gaming success, continues to diversify its portfolio by investing in non-gaming ventures. On the 11th, the company announced a ₩120 billion ($90 million) equity investment in Spoon Labs, a global short-form drama platform operator.

Spoon Labs is best known for its audio platform, Spoon, which has gained popularity in Japan, contributing to over ₩25 billion in sales in the first half of this year. Recently, the company launched "BeGlue," a dedicated platform for short-form drama content, further expanding into the rapidly growing entertainment market.

BeGlue offers curated short dramas under two minutes, supporting seven languages, including Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, and Thai. Krafton's investment focuses on the potential growth of the short-form drama market, leveraging BeGlue to tap into the global Hallyu wave in this new format.

Krafton has been steadily expanding its non-gaming investments through various acquisitions. Last year, it invested ₩22.3 billion in Fast Track Asia, a startup incubator, and ₩20 billion in One Store, a local app marketplace. Other strategic investments include Hidden Sequence, 21 Studio, Moloco, Scatter Lab, and more, demonstrating its commitment to business diversification and intellectual property (IP) development.
