[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Minyoung] On June 26, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced a voluntary recall for 456,977 vehicles from Hyundai, Kia, Volkswagen Group Korea, and Tesla Korea due to discovered manufacturing defects.

Firstly, 236,518 units of two models, including the Hyundai G80, are being recalled due to a design error in the engine starting motor that could lead to fire hazards. Additionally, 37,169 units of two models, including the Maxcruz, are being recalled due to insufficient durability in the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU), which also poses a fire risk.

Moreover, 18,397 units of the Santa Fe HEV will undergo recall from June 28 due to a software error in the electronic brakes, which can prevent the vehicle from stopping immediately if the remote control system fails, making it non-compliant with safety standards.

Volkswagen will recall 4,886 units of the ID.4 82kWh model due to a software error in the electronic control unit, causing the speedometer and rear camera display to malfunction, violating safety standards. Tesla will recall 2,819 units of four models, including the Model 3, from June 28, due to a non-compliant driver’s seatbelt warning system.

Finally, 157,188 units of Kia Sportage will be recalled starting July 3 due to HECU durability issues, which also pose a fire risk.
