[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] There is growing controversy surrounding Naver’s generative AI service, ClovaX, after it dismissed a query about President Yoon Suk-yeol's declaration of martial law as “false information.”
On December 4, users who asked ClovaX to "summarize the issue of President Yoon Suk-yeol's martial law declaration" were met with a response stating, "The information you inquired about is not true. Spreading false information can result in legal penalties, so please exercise caution." The service further advised users to verify political news from reliable sources and avoid spreading misinformation that could harm others.
Even when users pressed further with questions like “Why is it false that President Yoon declared martial law?” ClovaX repeatedly provided the same response without elaboration.
In contrast, OpenAI's ChatGPT, with its browsing capabilities enabled, responded to the same query by providing detailed information, including the timing, reasons for the martial law declaration, and domestic and international reactions.
The discrepancy between the AI platforms highlights differing approaches to information filtering and verification, raising questions about transparency and potential biases in AI services, particularly in politically sensitive topics.
