[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] LG Electronics announced on December 15 that it has supplied its next-generation residential solution, LG Smart Cottage, integrating artificial intelligence (AI) appliances and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) technologies, to SM Entertainment.

The LG Smart Cottage is a modular home designed to serve as an easily constructed "second house" near urban areas or in rural regions. It features LG's heat pump HVAC system and AI-enabled appliances as standard, helping reduce energy consumption. With an optional roof-mounted solar panel, the unit can generate a portion of its own energy. The Smart Cottage uses a prefabricated construction method, where more than 70% of materials, including structural modules, windows, wiring, bathrooms, and kitchen equipment, are pre-assembled and delivered. This approach reduces construction time by more than half compared to traditional reinforced concrete methods.

Since officially launching the Smart Cottage business in October, LG Electronics has secured its first B2B client. The modular units have been installed at SM Entertainment's training center in Gangwon Province, to be used as spaces for employee training and workshops. The setup includes two single-story Mono models and one two-story Duo model, totaling three units.

The cottages are equipped with the highly energy-efficient Therma V Monobloc heat pump system, alongside advanced LG appliances such as the Washtower Compact all-in-one washer-dryer, Dios Objet Collection induction cooktop, convection microwave, and dishwasher. Additionally, the homes feature IoT devices, including smart door locks, home cameras, temperature and humidity sensors, and smart plugs. All of these devices, along with LG's AI appliances, can be controlled via the LG ThinQ app. Future upgrades will allow integration with the upcoming AI home hub ThinQ On, transforming the cottages into AI-enabled smart homes.
