[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Approximately 2 million baked goods, including products sold under the Dunkin' brand, have been recalled in the United States due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

On January 7 (local time), FGF Brands announced a voluntary recall of about 2 million bakery items distributed across the U.S. and Canada. The recall was issued due to concerns that the products might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

According to a report from The New York Times on February 9, citing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), FGF Brands voluntarily recalled over 60 types of baked goods, including products sold at Dunkin’. The recalled products were manufactured before December 13, 2024.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause listeriosis, a severe form of food poisoning. The exact cause of contamination has not yet been determined.

In a statement, the company described the recall as a preventive measure based on findings from a single donut production facility, emphasizing that it was not directly related to the products themselves. Tests conducted on the donuts and food-contact surfaces reportedly did not detect Listeria.

FGF Brands also clarified that the recall process was completed in early January, meaning current and recently released products are unaffected.

The FDA classified this recall as a Class II incident, indicating that consuming the affected products could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Listeria is the third-leading cause of foodborne illness-related deaths in the U.S. Symptoms of Listeria infection typically include fever and headaches, but vulnerable individuals, such as those with weakened immune systems, may experience severe illness or death.
