[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Samsung Electronics is bolstering its audio business by acquiring a premium audio brand through its subsidiary, Harman International.

On May 6 (local time), Samsung announced that Harman has signed an agreement to acquire the audio division of U.S.-based Masimo for USD 350 million (approximately KRW 500 billion).

This marks Samsung's first major M&A deal in eight years, following its landmark acquisition of Harman for USD 8 billion (approximately KRW 9.4 trillion) in March 2017.

The Harman acquisition remains the largest in Samsung’s history and one of the most significant overseas takeovers by a South Korean company. Since then, the absence of large-scale M&A activity had sparked speculation about Samsung’s next major move, often referred to as the "post-Harman" era.

With this latest transaction, Samsung appears to be re-entering the large-scale M&A arena, signaling a renewed focus on strategic expansion in high-value segments.
