[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] A national petition calling for the cancellation of HYBE’s “Top Employment Enterprise” status, designated by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, has garnered over 50,000 signatures.
This comes after a statement by NewJeans member Hanni, who testified during a parliamentary audit by the Environment and Labor Committee on October 15th that she had overheard a manager from another girl group say to "ignore" her. This revelation has sparked scrutiny of HYBE regarding workplace bullying.
According to the National Assembly’s electronic petition website, as of 10 a.m. on the 10th, the petition had gathered 50,889 signatures, exceeding the threshold in the early morning hours of November 9th. The petition was initially submitted on October 31st, gaining support within just ten days.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor’s “Top Employment Enterprise” designation provides benefits including a presidential certification plaque and, depending on company size, advantages like favorable credit ratings, lower loan interest rates, additional points for government contracts, and expedited immigration services.
Originally led by NewJeans’ fan community, “Bunnies,” the petition quickly gained traction with other fan groups after the release of the so-called "HYBE idol internal document," which highlighted similar issues involving other idol groups.
Under relevant laws, petitions that gather 50,000 signatures within 30 days are formally received and reviewed by the National Assembly, and the committee in charge will evaluate whether to bring the matter to a full assembly vote.
