[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] According to the automotive industry, Hyundai Motor will temporarily close its Ulsan Plant 4, which produces the mid-sized truck Porter 2, from June 1st to 9th. During this period, Hyundai plans to designate the weekdays of June 3rd to 5th as temporary shutdown days for Ulsan Plant 4, and set up production lines to run on Memorial Day (June 6th) and the weekend.
The reason for Hyundai's nearly ten-day closure of Ulsan Plant 4 is due to the Porter 2 inventory piling up to nearly 10,000 units. Since the inventory exceeds the expected demand for June (6,500 units), Hyundai decided to temporarily suspend production.
The model with the largest decrease in sales is the Porter 2 Electric, which accounts for more than half of the total inventory (5,780 units). The sales of the Porter 2 Electric from January to April this year were 3,736 units, which plummeted to one-third of the same period last year (16,300 units). It is understood within the industry that the sales of Porter 2 Electric further decreased to 537 units in May.
A Hyundai Motor official stated, "During the shutdown period, we plan to adjust the supply volume of the Porter 2 while conducting equipment inspections."
