[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] A Japanese woman in her 50s has been booked by police on charges of sexual harassment after forcibly kissing BTS member Jin (33, real name Kim Seok-jin) last year.
The Seoul Songpa Police Station announced on the 27th that they have charged the woman, identified as A, with indecent assault in a crowded public place under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes. Authorities have requested her to appear for questioning.
The incident occurred on June 13, 2023, at an event held at Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Songpa-gu, Seoul. A is accused of kissing Jin on the cheek during the event.
At the time, Jin had just completed his military service as an army sergeant and was attending a fan event to celebrate BTS's 11th debut anniversary, where he hugged around 1,000 fans over three hours. Reports indicate that he attempted to avoid the kiss but was forcibly subjected to it, displaying an uncomfortable expression afterward.
Following the incident, A wrote on her blog, “My lips touched his neck. His skin was incredibly soft,” further fueling controversy.
After the event, a petition was filed on the public complaint platform People’s Sinmungo, demanding legal action against the fan. The police, in collaboration with Interpol Japan, identified A and formally booked her last month. However, despite being summoned, she has yet to comply with the request.
Authorities are also considering questioning Jin as part of the investigation in his capacity as the victim.
