[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] LG Energy Solutions announced on the 2nd that the first battery cell produced at Ultium Cells's second plant, a joint venture with General Motors (GM) in the United States, has been delivered to customers.

It's been two and a half years since the factory was built.

Batteries produced at the plant will be installed in new GM 3 generation electric vehicle models such as the Cadillac Rick.

The second plant of Ultium Cells plans to gradually increase its operating line to expand its production capacity to a total of 50GWh. This is enough to produce about 600,000 high-performance pure electric vehicles that can drive more than 500km on a single charge.

The second plant of Ultium Cells is characterized by maximizing production efficiency by applying state-of-the-art smart factory systems such as automation, informatization, and intelligence.

It greatly increased production speed by introducing automated manufacturing processes and facilities, and also focused on increasing yield by applying product error verification methods at each production stage.

Earlier, Ultium Cells began operation of its first plant in Ohio in November 2022. The third plant in Ultium Cells, Michigan, aims to be operational in 2025.
