[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] BGF Retail, the operator of CU convenience stores, announced on August 7 that its consolidated operating profit for the second quarter of 2025 reached KRW 69.4 billion, representing an 8.9% decline compared to the same period last year.

Revenue increased 4% year-over-year to KRW 2.29 trillion, while net profit declined 9.7% to KRW 52.8 billion. The reported operating profit is in line with the market consensus of KRW 69.5 billion, according to Yonhap Infomax.

The company attributed the decline in operating profit to a slowdown in consumer spending caused by prolonged economic stagnation and rising inflation, compounded by unfavorable weather conditions that led to reduced customer traffic.

BGF Retail explained that while new products such as the G-Dragon Peaceminusone Highball, restaurant-style ready meals, and expanded offerings in health supplements and private label products helped drive sales growth, the increase in fixed costs—such as depreciation and rent—could not be fully offset.

Looking ahead, the company expressed optimism for the second half of the year, citing a rebound in consumer demand following the government’s “living support coupons” program. BGF Retail plans to boost profitability through differentiated product strategies and aggressive low-price promotions.

Additionally, BGF Retail aims to expand customer engagement and drive revenue growth through new services such as “Next-Day Guaranteed Delivery” and “Naver Same-Day Delivery,” alongside the rollout of specialized store formats and pop-up store initiatives.
