[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] The Personal Information Protection Commission announced on the 30th that it has launched an investigation into 'ModooTour' following a recent controversy over personal data leaks.

At a briefing held at the Government Seoul Office, Vice Chairman Choi Jae-hyuk stated, "There is a significant gap between the date when the breach actually occurred and when ModooTour reported it. We are currently assessing the situation." He added, "We received a report from the company, prompting us to initiate the investigation."

Last month, ModooTour revealed that "malicious code was inserted into our website around June, leading to the leak of some member information and non-member reservation details."

The leaked information includes Korean and English names, user IDs, birth dates, mobile phone numbers, and linkage information (CI) as well as duplicate information (DI). Vice Chairman Choi mentioned, "Due to the nature of the travel agency, there have been over 60 applications for dispute resolution related to the incident."
