[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] SK Networks announced on the 17th that its board of directors approved a proposal to spin off the SpeedMate and Trading business units. Following an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders in August and related procedures, SpeedMate will launch as a new corporation in September, and the Trading business unit will do so in December.

This decision aligns with SK Networks' future growth strategy, which involves leading a company-wide transition to AI-based business models. The goal is to support the long-term growth of its subsidiaries and allow them to operate with an independent decision-making framework, enabling swift and effective business execution tailored to industry characteristics.

The company will prioritize the spin-off of SpeedMate and the Trading business, both of which have demonstrated self-sufficiency and business competitiveness. Other business units will follow through additional spin-offs once they secure stable management capabilities and stakeholder agreements. This strategy aims to establish SK Networks as an intermediate holding company.

SpeedMate, with over 590 locations nationwide, will leverage its strengths as a leading automotive maintenance brand in Korea. The new corporation will enhance its expertise in domestic and international vehicle maintenance, emergency services, tire distribution, and parts exports. Additionally, it plans to develop AI-integrated business models based on accumulated customer service data.
