[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] KT is accelerating its efforts to target the AI and cloud markets by teaming up with Microsoft (MS). On the 29th, KT announced that it had signed a multi-billion-dollar strategic partnership with MS at Microsoft's headquarters in Redmond, Washington, on the 27th. The partnership focuses on collaboration in AI, cloud, and IT, as well as sharing capabilities.

Over the next five years, KT and MS will develop AI solutions and cloud services tailored to the Korean market and establish a specialized AI transformation (AX) company. They will also strengthen AI research and development (R&D) capabilities and train tens of thousands of AI professionals in South Korea.

KT plans to create a Korean-specific AI model by utilizing OpenAI's voice AI model "GPT-4o" and MS’s small language model "Phi." This model will be integrated into KT’s customer service chatbots and specialized AI solutions for various industries in B2B settings. MS’s conversational AI, "Copilot," will also be incorporated into KT’s services, allowing customers to access personalized AI search and services based on Copilot.

Additionally, KT and MS will establish an AX company to support global expansion, offering a one-stop service for customers to seamlessly implement AI solutions by leveraging KT’s IT capabilities and MS’s AI and cloud platforms.
