[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] According to data submitted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MOLIT) to Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Yeon-hee, the number of employees from the ministry and its affiliated agencies who were caught violating property registration regulations last year reached 281, marking a 1.5-fold increase from the previous year. The increase was largely attributed to a significant rise in the number of employees from the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), which saw more than 100 additional cases.

Of the 281 individuals found in violation, 83% were employees of LH, totaling 234, which is an increase of 111 (90.2%) from the 123 found in 2022. A deputy manager at LH was caught for failing to properly declare rental deposits for properties owned by himself, his spouse, and his father, leading to a request for disciplinary action from the Public Officials Ethics Committee in December of last year.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport had the next highest number of violations, with 24 cases, accounting for 8.5% of the total. However, this was a decrease from 36 cases reported in 2022.

Additionally, it was reported that of the 48 LH employees investigated three years ago due to land speculation allegations, 18 (37.5%) still have ongoing trials. Of the 30 cases that concluded, 4 resulted in prison sentences, 6 in fines, and 20 were either acquitted or had their charges dropped.
