[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Asiana Airlines will suspend its hot beverage service on short-haul international routes starting on the 30th of this month.

According to the airline industry on the 29th, the service suspension will affect 14 routes to Japan, China, and Taiwan, where flight times do not exceed 2 hours and 30 minutes. Passengers on these routes will now only be offered cold coffee and tea.

Asiana Airlines explained that the measure, already implemented on domestic routes, has been extended to short-haul international routes to prevent safety incidents, such as burns caused by turbulence. An Asiana Airlines representative stated, "The change has been made to ensure the safety of passengers and crew."

The airline had previously suspended hot coffee and tea service on domestic flights in April last year. Following an earlier announcement by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, many full-service carriers (FSCs) and low-cost carriers (LCCs) have been reducing the availability of hot items like ramen, tea, and coffee.
