[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] The planned 150 won increase in Seoul subway fares, initially expected in October, has been postponed until next year. According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government on October 3, the fare hike has been delayed in line with the central government’s efforts to curb inflation.

As a result, there will be no further fare increases this year. A city official stated, "An immediate fare increase is not feasible, and the exact timing has not yet been determined."

Seoul initially planned to raise subway fares by 150 won in the second half of this year. Last year, the city raised city bus fares by 300 won in August and subway fares by 150 won in October, bringing the subway fare from 1,250 won to 1,400 won. At that time, the city indicated that a second fare hike would follow.

Due to the integrated fare discount system, any fare adjustments must be coordinated with Gyeonggi Province, Incheon City, and Korail, as the fare changes would also affect the Kimpo Goldline, Gyeonggi light rail, and Incheon’s subway lines.

Currently, the general subway fare in Seoul is 1,400 won (card-based). With the planned increase, the fare will rise to 1,550 won.
