[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] While the path and cause of LG U+'s customer information leakage have yet to be accurately identified, organizations that appear to be hackers continue to try to sell hacked data.
According to the industry on the 14th, the organization that appears to have hacked LG U+'s customer information recently posted a message on the Telegram channel that it would sell data.
They posted a message on the 12th saying, "The price of LG U+ data is 110,000 USDT (Tether) depending on the price change of BTC (Bitcoin)."
Earlier, on the 22nd of last month, they posted that they sold all or part of the information through Bitcoin or Tether, saying that they acquired more than 30 million LG Uplus customer information through the intranet network.
Images of some of the data they captured and posted included names and business names that appear to be not only Koreans but also foreigners, as well as an address and phone number, an email address, and a subscriber unique identification number (IMSI). This information is classified and organized as Chinese characters. Such sales articles were also posted on the hacking forum.
Although it is trying to continue to sell customer information stolen by organizations that appear to be hackers, LG U+ has yet to grasp the exact route and scale of the leakage.
In particular, at first, it was said that 180,000 personal information was leaked, but on the 3rd, it corrected that there were about 110,000 more people, raising customers' anxiety.
So far, LG U+ has 290,000 victims of personal information leakage, and the number of damages is estimated to be 590,000 due to overlapping leaks per person.
In addition, LG U+ has been criticized for trying to identify the leak by indirectly contacting hackers or customer information sellers.
