[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Hyundai Rotem has achieved its first export of wheeled armored vehicles supplied to our military. Peru's Army Command (FAME-PAME) announced on the 1st (local time) that Hyundai Rotem (supplier) and STX (contractor) have been selected as the priority negotiation partners for Peru's Army mobility enhancement program.
Hyundai Rotem confirmed this on the 2nd, stating that the contract value amounts to $60 million (approximately 830 billion won). Once the final contract is completed, Hyundai Rotem will supply 30 units of the 'K808 Baekho' (pictured) to the Peruvian Army through the contractor, STX. A Hyundai Rotem official explained, "This marks the first export of wheeled armored vehicles and the first entry into the Latin American region, which holds significant importance."
Wheeled armored vehicles refer to armored vehicles that move on wheels like ordinary vehicles, without the traditional continuous track system known as "caterpillar tracks." The K808 is equipped with armor and blast protection capabilities and can achieve speeds of up to around 100 km/h (maximum speed of 8 km/h underwater). It boasts excellent mobility, including the ability to continue driving even if a tire punctures, thanks to its eight-wheel run-flat tires. It plays a crucial role as a core mobility asset for our military.
Hyundai Rotem began developing wheeled armored vehicles in 2003 and is now proving its capabilities with this export. Hyundai Rotem and STX have secured the authority to supply up to 120 units, starting with this initial supply.
