[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Hyundai Rotem has won a KRW 1.2 trillion train supply project in Queensland, Australia. It is the largest railway project ever won overseas.

Hyundai Rotem said it was finally selected on the 30th as a manufacturer of trains for the train supply project ordered by the government of Queensland, Australia. Hyundai Rotem formed a consortium with local railway company Downer to participate in the bidding. The size of the project is 1.41278 billion Australian dollars (about 1.2164 trillion won).

Hyundai Rotem will carry out the overall tasks necessary for the delivery of electric trains, ranging from vehicle design and purchasing materials to technology transfer for local production, quality and repairing defects. A factory is also built in Queensland to produce local trains.

The trains to be delivered by Hyundai Rotem will be put on the Queensland railway line from the end of 2026 and run in the metropolitan area of Brisbane, Australia's third-largest city. The final delivery is planned to be completed by 2032.
