[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Hyundai Motors is going to introduce 'Hyper Casting', a manufacturing technology used by US electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla.
During the 21st round of wage and wage negotiations held at the accompanying room of the main building of the Ulsan plant on the 12th, Hyundai Motor prepared a "special agreement for the future growth of labor and management" with the union to transform its existing domestic plant centered on finished car manufacturing into a key manufacturing base for mid- to long-term future businesses.
Hyundai Motor plans to expand the aluminum body to switch to electric shoes and reduce the weight of the body, and will promote the internalization of hypercasting technology, which is an advanced large-scale die casting body manufacturing.
Hypercasting is an advanced new technology manufacturing method that uses large die casting equipment that can apply pressure of thousands of tons (ton) to put aluminum into a large frame and apply strong pressure to manufacture the casting structure.
Tesla of the United States is using this technology in global production plants such as the United States, China, and Germany under the name of "Gigacasting."
In order to introduce the technology, Hyundai Motor's labor and management plan to review appropriate sites such as idle sites of existing engines and transmission plants and finalize the site by the end of this year if all conditions such as manufacturing competitiveness are met. It aims to start construction in 2024 and apply it to mass production in 2026.
