[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] The Ministry of Environment has ordered Hyundai Motor Co., Stellatis Co. and Volvo Motor Co. to correct defects. This is because emission-related problems have been identified in some models, including Hyundai Palisade, Jeep Renegade and Volvo XC60.
According to the Ministry of Environment on the 13th, Hyundai Motor's Palisade 2.2 Diesel AWD’, Stallantis Jeep Renegade 2.4 and Volvo's XC60 D5 AWD’.
The Ministry of Environment selects vehicles that have not passed the emission guarantee period and conducts defect verification tests every year. The three models that were found to have defects this time exceeded emission acceptance standards during the preliminary inspection in 2022 and the main inspection in 2023.
It was finally confirmed during the main inspection that Palisade 2.2 diesel AWD exceeded the standard in one item of nitrogen oxide (NOx) and Renegade 2.4 exceeded the standard in one item of carbon monoxide (CO). Accordingly, the Ministry of Environment will notify Hyundai Motor and Stellatis of the recall order in advance on the 14th. Specific recall plans will be finalized after hearing procedures.
XC60 D5 AWD was found to have exceeded the standard in one item of nitrogen oxide (NOx) during the preliminary inspection. The manufacturer, Volvo Motors, accepted the preliminary test results. Afterwards, it voluntarily submitted a recall plan to the Ministry of Environment on May 12 without the main inspection.
The sales of these three models are Palisade 2.2 diesel AWD 5 units (production period November 2018 ∼ March 2022), Renegade 2.4 and 4,000 units (September 2015 ∼ December 2019), and XC60 D5 AWD 3000 units (April 2018 ∼ August 2020), totaling 57,000 units. The figure is provisional and may vary when the recall plan is finalized.
Meanwhile, automakers that have received recall orders from the Ministry of Environment should prepare analysis of the causes of defects and improvement measures within 45 days.
