[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Lotte Energy Materials, which produces copper foil, an essential raw material for secondary batteries, will build a plant with an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons in the U.S.

According to the industry on the 17th, Lotte Energy Materials submitted an application for the establishment of a local corporation in Delaware, USA on the 12th. The company plans to start building the plant as soon as the establishment of a local corporation, which usually takes about two weeks, is completed.

The company is struggling with three to four states as candidates for the US plant site. Candidates include Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia. This is where factories of U.S. and Korean automakers are located.

Lotte Energy Materials plans to wrap up related negotiations by considering incentives offered by the U.S. state government, including tax benefits, in selecting factory sites.
