[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Kia's large electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) model, the EV9, saw its sales plunge just three months after its launch.
According to the Kaiz UData Research Institute on the 18th, EV9 sold only 501 units in Korea last month. Sales of the EV9 increased from 665 units in June to 1,682 units in July, the first month of its launch, but plunged to a third last month. The cumulative sales volume is 2989 units.
The best-selling trim was Earth 4WD, accounting for 46.9% (1358 units) of the total. It was followed by GT- line 34.3% (994 units) and Earth 2WD 12.7% (367 units). Six-seaters (65.1%) were sold more than seven-seaters (34.9%), and by gender and age, men (81.9%) and people in their 40s (41.8%) owned more.
EV9 also suffered a recall two months after its launch. According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, EV9 corrected more than 8,000 units last month due to intermittent abnormal communication due to the software design error of the rear-wheel-drive motor control unit and defects blocking the main relay of the high-voltage battery.
