[Alpha Biz= Reporter Paul Lee] The victim collective dispute settlement process has begun in connection with the Loot Box manipulation of Nexon's flagship game "Maple Story."

The consumer dispute settlement committee of the Korea Consumer Agency said it will announce the start of the process on its website from the 29th to the 22nd of next month and complete the dispute settlement within 30 days from the day after the end of the announcement. The committee plans to allow consumers who did not participate in the mediation process to be compensated if Nexon accepts the decision.

Earlier, the Fair Trade Commission fined Nexon some 11.6 billion won, saying it has lowered the probability of the emergence of popular options for Cube, Maple Story's paid item, without informing consumers since September 2010. Since then, the Korea Consumer Agency has received applications for collective dispute settlement for about two weeks since late February to rescue victims of Maple Story, and 5,804 people have been received as a result.

Regarding the case, the committee explained that it judged that more than 50 consumers were damaged by Loot Box paid items and that important issues were virtually or legally the same, meeting the requirements for the start of the collective dispute settlement process.
