[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The LG inheritance suit, originally known as a pure inheritance recovery suit, is likely to spread to a management dispute regardless of the maintenance of the late chairman Koo Bon-moo.
In an inheritance recovery suit filed by the late Koo Bon-moo's wife and two daughters against LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo, he is not initially interested in managerial control A transcript of the conversation between family members has been released, which strongly shows that LG Welfare Foundation CEO Dawn Koo Yeon-kyung should participate in the management.
Initially, the three mother and daughter agreed on the inheritance, believing that there was a will of 故 (late) Koo Bon-moo, chairman of LG University, but filed a lawsuit to restore the inheritance, knowing that there was no such will. It has also maintained that it does not intend to infringe LG's management rights. However, controversy is expected as the transcripts recorded secretly by the parties revealed their willingness to participate in the management.
The Civil Affairs Agreement Department 11 (Presiding Judge Park Tae-il) at the Seoul Western District Court held the second hearing of the inheritance recovery suit filed against Chairman Koo Kwang-mo on the 16th. Kim Young-sik, wife of former chairman Koo Bon-moo, her two daughters Koo Yeon-kyung and Koo Yeon-soo filed a lawsuit against Koo Kwang-mo, saying there were problems in the process of distributing the inherited property. Chairman Koo and his three daughters did not attend the trial.
In the defense on this day, attention was focused on the purpose of the inheritance lawsuit of the three mothers and daughters. Ha Beom-jong, head of LG's management support division, appeared again as a witness following the 5th of last month, acknowledging that the three mother and daughter filed an inheritance dispute with the aim of participating in LG Group's management rights. He explained that the facts were correct about the transcript of the June 30, 2022 conversation presented by Koo's lawyer (defendant).
According to the transcript, CEO Koo Yeon-kyung told CEO Ha, "I think the inheritance division consultation should be reset (initialized) regardless of the maintenance of the father (former chairman Koo Bon-moo)." Asked by a reporter if Koo Yeon-kyung had ever expressed his intention to participate in management rights after the trial, Ha said, "It's the same as I said (at the trial)." In other words, the three mothers and daughters demanded participation in the management before filing an inheritance dispute earlier this year.
The move is intended to re-divide the property regardless of Koo Bon-moo's original intention to "hand over all of the management rights to Koo Kwang-mo." President Ha testified that he showed a note signed by Chairman Koo Bon-moo to the two mother and daughter, but the two are arguing, saying they do not remember seeing it. CEO Ha also said that LG Group's management was disrupted by the announcement of the inheritance suit.
