[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Samsung Electronics is going to establish a future business planning team dedicated to discovering new businesses. The strategy is to find a second growth engine that connects semiconductors and bios.
Samsung Electronics announced the appointment of its regular presidents in 2024 on the 27th. Jeon Young-hyun, chairman (vice chairman) of Samsung SDI's board of directors, will return to Samsung Electronics for the first time in six years to head the new future business planning team. Jeon is the leader who led Samsung to the world's best in semiconductor and secondary batteries after serving as head of Samsung Electronics' memory business division and president of Samsung SDI. Based on this expertise, Samsung is considered to have played a crucial role in finding food to eat after 10 years.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics promoted Yong Seok-woo, vice president of the video display (VD) division, and Kim Won-kyung, head of the Global Public Relations Fair (GPA) team at the management support office, to president, respectively. Yong, a TV development expert, was born in 1970 and is the first president of Samsung Electronics born in the 1970s. President Kim is a bureaucrat-turned-foreign trade expert.
The existing two CEOs of Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee and President Kyung Joo-hyun will remain the same. However, Vice Chairman Han handed over the post of head of the VD division, which he was concurrently holding, to President Yong, and Kyung decided to be the head of SAIT (Advanced Institute of Technology) as well as the head of the semiconductor (DS) division.
