[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Nexon, which was fined 11.6 billion won from the Fair Trade Commission for not properly informing or falsely notifying it even after changing Random boxes's probability against users, said, "We will stop selling probability-enhancing products in the Maple Story game service."

"Changing the fundamental structure of the game is the only way to tell users to trust us once again," Maple Story game management said in a "Maple Story" online broadcast on the evening of the 9th, adding that it will drastically revise its revenue model, including the suspension of the sale of the probability-enhancing product "cube."

Earlier on the 3rd, the Fair Trade Commission imposed a fine of 11.6 billion won on Nexon, which informed them of false facts or used deceptive methods to lure consumers or do business with consumers (violation of the Electronic Commerce Act). According to the Fair Trade Commission, Nexon set an equal probability of appearing by option when it introduced Cube products in 2010, but has changed its probability structure to have less popular options with high user preferences since September of the same year. In addition, Nexon changed its probability structure from August 2011 to March 2021 to prevent the emergence of certain overlapping options with high user preference when using Cube.

The FTC also judged that Nexon did not properly inform users of the change in probability structure or made false notices. Cube is a key revenue model that accounts for 30% of Maple Story's total sales.
