[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] A Korean Air passenger plane hit a Hong Kong Cathay Pacific passenger plane at Sapporo Airport in Hokkaido, Japan, on the 16th, causing disruptions in operations.

According to Korean Air and Japanese media, Korean Air flight KE766, which was heading to Incheon International Airport from New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, Japan, hit Cathay Pacific flight CX583 in Hong Kong at around 5:35 p.m. The accident occurred when Korean Air pushed a passenger plane that was preparing for takeoff back using a special vehicle (a special car that serves to tow a toy car and a plane). The heavy snowfall in Japan slipped a special vehicle pulling the Korean Air plane, hitting the right tail wing of the Cathay Pacific aircraft and the tip of the left wing of the Korean Air aircraft.

A total of 289 people, including the captain, 12 crew members and 276 passengers, were aboard the plane, but no casualties have been reported so far. According to local fire authorities, there were no passengers on the Cathay Pacific passenger plane. In addition, the airport fire brigade prepared for an emergency, but no further damage occurred, including a fire on a passenger plane.

Meanwhile, heavy snow caused 46 flights to be canceled at New Chitose Airport.
