[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Administrative measures related to the collapse of GS Engineering & Construction's Gumdan apartment in Incheon are imminent.
The Administrative Disposal Review Committee, which decides the suspension period of GS Engineering & Construction, completed the GS Construction hearing last month. However, the final decision was postponed as the process of collecting written opinions was decided to continue.
The deliberation committee will review the appropriateness of the level of business suspension issued in August last year based on the contents of the GS E&C hearing and written opinions over the next month. This will deliberate on the suspension period.
Initially, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport asked for an eight-month suspension of GS Engineering & Construction. Including the additional two months of disposal required by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, a total of 10 months of suspension will be imposed. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has requested the Seoul Metropolitan Government to conduct an insincere safety inspection (one month) and a quality test (one month).
GS Engineering & Construction plans to file an application for suspension of execution and a cancellation suit with the court if the suspension of business is imposed.
In fact, the government's suspension of construction companies is easily nullified. HDC Hyundai Industrial Development Co., which previously caused 17 casualties, including nine bus passengers, in the collapse of the redevelopment site in Hak-dong, Gwangju, in June 2021, received the highest-ever 16-month suspension from the Seoul Metropolitan Government. The eight-month business suspension imposed on charges of poor construction has been suspended after filing a cancellation suit, while the eight-month suspension on charges of violating its duty to manage subcontractors has been replaced by a fine of 400 million won.
