[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] It was revealed that the Fair Trade Commission did not even review the possibility of filing a WTO complaint related to the 'Platform Fair Competition Promotion Act (Platform Act)'.

According to Alpha Biz's coverage on the 31st, the American Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the largest U.S. economic organization, publicly expressed opposition to the platform law pushed by the FTC.

Pointing out that the platform law is seriously flawed, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Industry stressed that sufficient discussion is needed along with the Fair Trade Commission's disclosure of the entire condolence call.

Experts have repeatedly raised concerns that the platform law could lead to trade friction between Korea and the United States.

However, the FTC did not bend its will to enact the platform law. The problem is that the FTC has not conducted any review investigation into possible trade and trade friction between South Korea and the U.S. due to the platform law.

An official from the Fair Trade Commission told Alpha Biz that "this is the first time I've heard of the possibility of filing a WTO complaint," considering the current situation when the platform law is passed. "The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Fair Trade Commission are discussing related matters, but there has been no mention of (the possibility of filing a WTO complaint)." In other words, the FTC admitted that it did not even conduct a preliminary simulation of the possibility of filing an WTO complaint if it pushed for the platform law.

Woo Ki-hoon, senior partner at Murepa Korea and former KOTRA vice president said, “The platform law, which is a prior regulation, targets big tech companies such as Apple and Google.” “There is a high possibility that a WTO complaint will be filed,” he pointed out.
