[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Asiana Airlines announced on the 15th that it recorded sales of 6.5321 trillion won and operating profit of 400.7 billion won last year based on the International Financial Reporting Standards (K-IFRS) separate financial statements.

Due to the recovery in international passenger demand after the COVID-19 pandemic, sales in 2023 (on a separate basis) rose 16% year-on-year to a record high of 6.5321 trillion won. Operating profit fell 45.4 percent on-year to 400.7 billion won due to normalization of air cargo supply, but net profit continued its surplus to 23.9 billion won following last year.

Asiana Airlines has started to increase its supply seats by expanding operations on all international routes in response to growing demand for overseas travel and transfers. It has strengthened its routes to the Americas and targeted new tourism demands, including two daily flights to LA and an increase in night flights to New York. As a result, passenger business sales rose about 90% year-on-year to 4.2892 trillion won.

The cargo business sector has been sluggish due to growing uncertainties in external conditions, including falling demand for air cargo due to the global tightening stance and increased supply stemming from the recovery of passenger flights. Sales of the cargo business fell about 46 percent on-year to 1.6071 trillion won due to a drop in air freight fares.
