[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] The delivery workers' union at CJ Logistics headquarters announced on the 10th that they have discontinued negotiations with the association of delivery agents and have applied for mediation with the Central Labor Commission regarding issues such as raising additional fees for holidays.
Since January, CJ Logistics has been gradually implementing a five-day work week for delivery workers with the introduction of 7-day delivery service.
Following this, the CJ Logistics association of delivery agents and the delivery workers' union reached a basic agreement on January 14, and have been negotiating the final agreement.
However, negotiations have been halted as the two sides have been unable to reach a consensus on issues such as the increase in fees for holiday deliveries under the 7-day service, reducing high fees for certain agents, and sharing of workers' compensation insurance costs.
The union stated, "Currently, Sunday delivery volumes are very low and with the current additional fees, it's not even enough to cover fuel costs."
The union also demands the establishment of a standard rate for deductions from fees for delivery workers at each agent, arguing that the rates vary by region.
In response, CJ Logistics stated that Sunday delivery volumes are gradually increasing, and while both sides have made some progress in reaching an agreement through negotiations, they plan to seek solutions for some issues through government agencies.
