[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] BUSAN, South Korea, May 27, 2025 — Nongshim has begun construction on a new export-only ramen production facility in Busan, aiming to establish the city as a central hub for its global operations. The new plant is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026 and will significantly boost Nongshim’s annual ramen production capacity to 1.2 billion units.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the “Noksan Export Plant” was held on May 26 at Noksan Industrial Complex in Gangseo District, Busan, the company announced on Monday.

The new facility will be built on a 11,280 square-meter site adjacent to Nongshim’s existing Noksan plant, which currently manufactures non-fried noodles using hot-air drying technology. Once completed, the new factory will span approximately 48,100 square meters in total floor area.

The Noksan Export Plant will incorporate Nongshim’s proprietary artificial intelligence (AI)-powered smart factory technologies. These include an AI deep-learning quality inspection system and a predictive maintenance system utilizing big data analytics. The facility is designed to meet a wide range of global regulatory standards and will be certified under ISO 9001, FSSC 22000, RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil), and Halal certifications.

Upon completion, the plant will initially operate three production lines, capable of producing 500 million ramen units annually. Combined with the current export volumes from the existing Noksan Plant (600 million units) and the Gumi Plant (100 million units), Nongshim’s total annual export capacity will reach 1.2 billion ramen packs.

The Busan production base—including both the existing and new facilities—will account for 1.1 billion units, cementing its role as the company’s primary export hub. With the launch of the new plant, the share of Busan’s production in Nongshim’s total export output is expected to rise from 86% to 92% by late 2026.

Nongshim also announced plans to further expand production capacity depending on future overseas demand.
