[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] A Korean Air passenger flight bound for Jeju Island made a safe emergency landing on June 27 after the captain reported a flap system anomaly that could affect landing deceleration.

According to the Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters, Korean Air Flight KE1585, which departed Sacheon Airport in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province at 3:25 p.m., issued an emergency request to Jeju International Airport at 4:14 p.m., citing mechanical issues.

The flight’s captain alerted air traffic control, stating:

“Due to a suspected flap malfunction, deceleration during landing may be impaired. Requesting immediate landing assistance.”

In response, Jeju authorities dispatched 12 emergency vehicles and approximately 30 personnel, including command and specialized fire response teams, to the airport as a precautionary measure.

Fortunately, the aircraft landed safely at 4:20 p.m., and all 163 passengers disembarked without injury.

A Korean Air spokesperson stated:

“All passengers have safely disembarked. Maintenance inspections are underway to determine the cause of the suspected flap malfunction.”

The airline and relevant aviation authorities are conducting further checks to ensure flight safety and prevent recurrence of such incidents.
