[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] SK Nexilis, an investment arm of SKC in battery materials, is set to sell its flexible copper-clad laminate (FCCL) business for display applications to private equity firm Affirma Capital for 95 billion KRW (approximately $71 million). SK Nexilis held a board meeting on the 13th and approved the sale of its FCCL division, with plans to finalize the transaction in February next year.

FCCL is a crucial electronic material that transmits video signals in display devices like smartphones and TVs, widely used in Chip-on-Film (COF) for displays. Although SK Nexilis primarily focuses on copper foil for lithium-ion batteries, it also operates in the FCCL sector.

SKC’s decision to divest its FCCL business likely stems from a reduced incentive to continue after selling its film business in 2022. While FCCL benefitted from SKC’s film technology, the shift in SKC's strategy to transform into a mobility materials company meant the FCCL business no longer aligned with its future direction.

The capital from the FCCL sale will be directed towards expanding high-value-added products, including ABSOLUX glass substrates, as part of SKC's strategy to concentrate on core businesses.
