[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) has won a major project to build a next-generation power transmission line in Saudi Arabia.

On November 11 (local time), Hyundai E&C signed a contract with the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) at its headquarters in Riyadh to construct the "Riyadh-Qudmi 500kV High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Transmission Line." The contract is valued at $725 million (approximately 1 trillion KRW), marking Hyundai E&C’s largest-ever project in the Saudi power grid sector.

The "Riyadh-Qudmi Transmission Line Project" involves constructing a 1,089-kilometer HVDC line linking the PP14 Combined Cycle Power Plant in Riyadh with the southern coastal area of Qudmi. Hyundai E&C will handle the first 369 kilometers near Qudmi, with completion expected by January 2027.
