Honda motorcycle 'Super Cub' is discontinued

[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] Honda Motor has decided to end production of motorcycles with a displacement of less than 50cc. Accordingly, the Honda motorcycle Super Cub will be discontinued from May 2025, according to the Yomiuri Shimbun on the 24th.

According to reports, Honda made the decision, judging that it is difficult to comply with emission regulations that will be applied from November 2025 by producing motorcycles below 50cc. This is because motorcycles in the category are subject to regulations due to a lack of exhaust gas purification functions. Motorcycle sales have also declined recently. According to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, motorcycle production below 50cc was shipped about 1.98 million units in 1980, but dropped sharply to about 90,000 units as of 2023.

The Super Cub, called the world's best-selling motorcycle, has been sold since 1958 and has surpassed the cumulative sales of 100 million units worldwide.
