[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] The government has launched an emergency inspection due to a service disruption in the PC version of KakaoTalk.

According to Kakao on the 21st, a service disruption occurred in the PC version of KakaoTalk from 8:30 AM to 9:24 AM on that day, preventing some users from logging in. These users also experienced issues with sending and receiving messages properly.

In response, Kakao stated that the cause of the service disruption was identified as an internal system error. However, the company did not provide detailed explanations about the disruption. Kakao explained that they identified the problem and responded immediately.

This is not the first time a service disruption has occurred on KakaoTalk. On the 13th and 20th of this month, during internal system maintenance, some users experienced issues with sending and receiving messages for about six minutes around 2 PM. During this time, some users were also unable to access the PC version of KakaoTalk.

As service disruptions on KakaoTalk continue to occur, the government has initiated an emergency inspection. The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) is conducting an on-site investigation with experts in the fields suspected to be the cause of the service disruption, such as software and networks. The government plans to verify the cause of the disruption, the recovery status, and the measures to prevent recurrence, and will work with Kakao to ensure that such service disruptions do not happen again.
