[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] KT announced on the 24th that it will absorb its big data subsidiary, KT NexR, through a merger.
KT will acquire 100% of KT NexR's shares from KT DS, which currently holds those shares, on November 2. No new shares will be issued in this process.
Once the merger is completed, KT NexR will be dissolved, and KT will retain all employees from KT NexR. The merger date is set for December 26.
KT stated that the decision to merge with KT NexR comes amid heightened competition for talent in artificial intelligence (AI) technology. KT NexR is recognized for having the largest pool of data professionals among KT's IT group companies and has been engaged in developing, building, and operating big data platforms.
