[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Gate Gourmet Korea (GCK), an in-flight meal supplier, has filed a lawsuit with a U.S. federal court against Asiana Airlines to pay about $50.75 million (KRW 67.14358 billion) in settlement payments.
According to the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure system on the 12th, the GCK filed a federal district court in central California for the execution of $50.75 million (about 67.1 billion won), including Asiana Airlines' unpaid in-flight meals and interest, following the ICC arbitration decision.
GGK filed for ICC arbitration in 2019, saying Asiana Airlines did not pay the settlement due to differences over the calculation of the unit price. ICC ordered Asiana Airlines to pay 42 billion won in February 2021.
GCK filed a claim with the Seoul Southern District Court against Asiana Airlines for 42 billion won in execution, and the court cited the claim. When Asiana Airlines did not pay, GCK was forced to file for execution with a U.S. court.
In addition to the unpaid payment, the ICC ruled that the government should pay additional single interest with the annual interest rate added to the KORIBOR monthly interest rate of 8% from October 30, 2020 to the final payment.
