[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) has launched an investigation into allegations that three major cinema chains—CGV, Lotte Cinema, and Megabox—colluded to increase ticket prices.

According to industry sources on the 18th, FTC officials conducted on-site investigations at the headquarters of CGV, Lotte Cinema, and Megabox. The investigation focuses on whether these companies engaged in collusion during the price increase process following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Concerns were raised by groups like the Korean Film Industry Crisis Overcoming Film Coalition and Participatory Coalition, which alleged that the three companies raised ticket prices from 12,000 won to 15,000 won every one to two months between 2020 and 2022, suspecting collusion in the process.
