[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] The fixed offshore crude oil production facility built by Hanwha Ocean has successfully produced its first crude oil from the Al-Shaheen oil field in Qatar.

Hanwha Ocean announced on the 18th that the first crude oil was produced at the Al-Shaheen oil field's offshore facility on the 15th, two weeks ahead of schedule.

The company received the order for the fixed offshore crude oil production facility from Qatar's North Oil Company (NOC) in 2021 and completed construction at its Geoje shipyard in July this year. The facility then set sail for the Al-Shaheen oil field, the world's largest offshore oil field, arriving 20 days later. Over the next three and a half months, the company completed the installation of upper and lower structures, connections with surrounding facilities, and various piping and electrical work. It also successfully conducted commissioning of internal equipment and systems.

The first crude oil production marks the start of full-scale commercial operations.

Qatar is reportedly planning to place additional orders for fixed offshore oil and gas production facilities in the future. This achievement is expected to have a positive impact on Hanwha Ocean's business activities in the Middle East.
