[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, August 11 — Samsung Electronics is strengthening its position within Apple’s supply chain, securing a contract to supply image sensors for the next-generation iPhone while Samsung Display remains the largest supplier of OLED panels for the device lineup.

According to industry sources, Samsung Display will begin large-scale supply of its next-generation “two-stack tandem” OLED panels for the MacBook Pro models set to launch next year. The technology, already featured in the latest iPad, stacks two emitting layers to extend panel lifespan and improve brightness, offering superior power efficiency and durability compared to single-layer structures.

Samsung Display continues to dominate Apple’s display supply chain and is expected to be the largest — and in some cases exclusive — panel supplier for Apple’s first foldable smartphone, anticipated to launch next year. The foldable iPhone is likely to adopt Samsung Display’s commercialized “CoE” (Color Filter on Encapsulation) technology, which eliminates the polarizer in favor of special films and low-reflection materials to reduce light reflection. This improves light transmittance, resulting in brighter screens, lower power consumption, and extended battery life.

In an era where on-device AI computing is increasingly important, CoE’s power efficiency is seen as well-suited to next-generation mobile designs. Industry watchers expect the technology to debut with the foldable iPhone and expand to the slim-form “iPhone Air” model planned for 2027.
