[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Samsung Display is going to establish the world's first 8.6th generation medium-sized organic light emitting diode (OLED) production line.
Samsung Display made an announcement on the 10th that it held a facility entry ceremony for the A6 line, which produces 8.6 generation medium-sized OLED panels, at Asan Campus in South Chungcheong Province on the 8th. A total of KRW 4.1 trillion was spent on building the production line. When completed, it is the latest line in the world's OLED line. We will start mass production from 2026.
Industries predict that when the mid-sized OLED market opens, Samsung Display and LG Display will beat China and face their "second heyday." Currently, China is the number one display market in the world. According to market researcher DSCC, China's display market share (based on production capacity) was overwhelming at 65% in 2022. This is because China is holding onto the LCD market.
Industries are predicting that the mid-sized OLED era will open soon, citing that Korean OLEDs will be included in Apple's "iPad Pro," which will be introduced as early as this month.
Samsung Display and LG Display will supply 3.9 trillion won worth of OLED panels for the iPad Pro.
