MBK Partners Refutes 'Foreign Investor' Claims in Korea Zinc Controversy

[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] MBK Partners strongly refuted the claims made by Cheong Yoon-beom, the chairman of Korea Zinc, regarding the "foreign investor" controversy.

MBK Partners stated that the entity participating in the public tender offer for Korea Zinc is the domestic corporation "MBK Partners Limited Liability Company", and therefore, it does not violate the foreign investment provisions under the National Strategic Industry Act or the Industrial Technology Protection Act.

MBK Partners explained its major shareholder structure, highlighting that Yoon Jong-ha and Kim Gwang-il, along with the employee stock ownership association, collectively hold 80% of the voting rights, giving Korean nationals effective control. The company emphasized that investment decisions are made by a majority vote in the investment review committee, which consists primarily of Korean partners.

Additionally, MBK Partners pointed out that Dial Capital, a foreign investor, is a purely financial investor with no voting rights. MBK Partners urged Cheong Yoon-beom's side to stop making defamatory and baseless claims regarding the nationality of its investors and to recognize that the entity involved in the Korea Zinc investment is a domestic corporation.
