[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] North Korea's decision to deploy troops to support Russia in the Ukraine conflict is raising alarms about global security, with some observers warning of the potential for a third world war. Tensions are particularly high in Ukraine, where officials are voicing concerns about escalating hostilities.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on the 17th that there are reports of North Korea preparing to send approximately 10,000 troops, calling it "the first step towards a world war."

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba emphasized that North Korea is aiding Russia's invasion with weapons and personnel, stating, "Russia is seriously escalating its aggression by involving North Korea as a participant in the war."

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is closely monitoring the movements of North Korean troops. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg remarked on the 18th that the alliance's official stance remains "unconfirmed," but noted that this position could change.

French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Christophe Lemaire warned that if the information is verified, it would represent "an extremely concerning and serious development."
