[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] POSCO has manufactured the world's first steel specifically designed for the next-generation eco-friendly transportation system, Hyperloop, and has supplied it to Europe.

On September 9, POSCO attended the Hyperloop EHC Phase A test track completion ceremony hosted by Hardt in Veenendaal, Netherlands, as announced on September 10.

Hyperloop is a future eco-friendly high-speed transport system that can travel at speeds exceeding 1,000 km/h in vacuum tubes.

The Hyperloop test track (Phase A), which has a diameter of 2.5 meters and a length of 450 meters, will focus on testing aspects such as acceleration and deceleration (with a peak speed of 100 km/h), precision control at branching sections, and passenger safety.

POSCO’s Steel Research Institute, Steel Solution Research Institute, and Marketing Division collaborated on the entire process from design to production of the EHC track. They supplied 352 tons of PosLoop 355 steel, which is 27% lighter than the original Hardt design, for the Phase A test track.

POSCO stated that the steel is “a world-first specialized material for Hyperloop tubes,” highlighting its ability to self-dampen vibrations occurring during high-speed travel, with a vibration damping capability 1.7 times greater than that of standard steel, along with superior seismic performance.
