[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Kakao's subsidiaries DK Techin and Kakao Brain are set to merge. According to the ICT industry, DK Techin announced on August 23 that it plans to merge with Kakao Brain on October 1.
Before the merger, Kakao Brain will spin off its healthcare business into a new entity called "CXR Lab," which will then be absorbed by DK Techin.
This decision is seen as part of Kakao's broader strategy to streamline its operations.
Earlier this month, Kakao CEO Jeong-Sil An stated during the company's Q2 earnings conference call that they would focus on core businesses closely related to the KakaoTalk platform and AI, while non-core businesses would be optimized or reduced. As part of this strategy, Kakao has already exited the golf equipment business and reduced the number of its affiliates by 15 this year.
