[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Kim Young-seop, CEO of KT Corporation, apologized on October 8 regarding allegations that the company accessed information from a "grid program" used to expedite processing on customer PCs, causing them to become inaccessible.

During a national audit session held by the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Committee, Kim responded to questions from Democratic Party lawmaker Hwang Jeong-a by expressing regret that the issue had persisted for a long time without resolution. He assured that measures would be actively implemented to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

However, Kim clarified that, based on his reports, there was no evidence that the company created malicious software to hack or eavesdrop on customer information.

KT is under investigation for allegedly controlling customer PCs by manipulating data packets exchanged over the internet at its Bundang data center since 2020.

Lawmaker Hwang criticized the situation, stating, "How can any citizen trust KT with essential telecommunications services when the company shows no self-reflection?"

He urged the Ministry of Science and ICT to conduct a thorough investigation into whether similar incidents exist and to implement measures to prevent future occurrences.
